2 Policemen Shot Dead By Gunmen In Military Uniform

Two policemen and two civilians were shot dead by unknown gunmen dressed in military uniform at Ikirun-Oke, near Ibilo in Edo State.

The state Commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo who diclosed the incident, said three other policemen, including an Inspector were injured during the shooting and are currently at an undisclosed hospital, receiving treatment.

It is yet unknown whether the two civilians who were killed were travelling with the policemen.

According to PM News report, the incident happened at about 11:30 a.m. when policemen who were travelling from Abuja to Lagos in an 18-seater police bus marked NPF 3148 C, were flagged down by the gunmen who suddenly opened fire on them.

The police commissioner revealed that the remains of the deceased police officers had been deposited at the mortuary of Anyakur Specialist Hospital at Ibilo.

It would be recalled that the Deputy Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Festus Ibea, along with the Minority Leader, Emmanuel Okoduwa, and a member of house, Patrick Iluobe had been attacked by unknown gunmen on Sunday, 22 June, 2014, on their return from Ebele, Igueben local government area of the state, where they had attended the investiture of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Anthony Anenih.
