More than 200 students in Sremanu community in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region are benefitting from a furnished junior high school, a new kindergarten block and toilet facility.
The classroom blocks, which are disability-friendly, include office, store and staff rooms as well as wash rooms,a dining hall and playground for the kids. In addition, the classrooms and offices are equipped with furniture, such as desks and chairs.These facilities will help increase access to education and motivate students to enjoy school, stay in school, work hard and complete their schooling with good grades.
The U.S. Government, through the Agency for International Development (USAID), provided these facilities under a USAID-Ministry of Education collaboration for the construction of education public works, including school blocks and district education offices.
The USAID/Ghana Deputy Education Office Director, Ms. Sarah Banashek; Akatsi South District Chief Executive, Mr. Samuel Wuadi; and Akatsi South Director of Education, Mr. Joseph Wordui recently inaugurated the new school facilities at Sremanu.
USAID is providing 159 education infrastructural projects in all the 10 regions of Ghana to help the Government of Ghana reduce the existing shortfall in basic education infrastructure including the provision of new district education offices.In addition, the American people in partnership with Plan Ghana have builtsevenjunior high school blocks and provided support to communities to refurbish and rehabilitate over 100 schools in Ghana.
Through the Partnership for Accountable Governance in Education project, USAID has worked in 46 districts to improve education management, supervision and governance at the district and community levels. USAID is also supporting the Ghana Education Service to conduct the National Education Assessment and Early Grade Reading Assessment.
