Although God has blessed Ghana with a lot of beautiful flowers which we always see round us, unfortunately Ghanaians do not see the value and the importance of flowers to make the best out of them.

Whereas some countries have developed their garden and flower sector which serve as tourist attraction and also a means of income generation, Ghanaians has abandoned this lucrative sector.

To create the awareness about this abandon sector and the need to protect it, Strategic Communication Africa Ltd., (Stratcomm Africa) has launched the second edition of the Innovative Ghana Garden and Flowers Show which will start from Friday 29th August to Monday 8th September 2014 in Accra.

The 2014 Garden and Flower show, dubbed ‘Gardening for Value: Health, Beauty, Jobs and Income’, is to exhibit the potentials that exist for growing this aspect of our natural resources s for commercial and aesthetic purpose.

At a colorful event to launch the show, Ms. Esther A.N Cobbah, Chief Executive Officer, Stratcomm Africa said it is important for the country to develop the Garden and Flow sector because it is a means of employment and income generation, the beautification of the country and environmental conservation.

According to her last year show was a success because of the great interest shown by the general public and are looking forward for a bigger show this year.

‘Last year we saw great enthusiasm shown by both the public and the exhibitors and we are confident that this year’s show will be even bigger.

‘We have become aware of the international interest in the show and we really believe that in the years ahead the Garden and Flower show in Ghana will be among the events that garden and flower lovers in the world will look forward to’.

The Chief Executive Officer averred that the Garden and Flow show has helped to create awareness about Ghana’s abundant natural resources and promotes Ghana as a compelling investment destination.

She said the 2014 show will include conference, fashion show, exhibitions as well as workshop.

‘The workshop topics will explore the various avenues of generating value from gardens and flowers, Facilitators will help participants identify and take advantage of the opportunities that abound in the commercialization of gardens and flowers’ she said.

‘We expect wider variety of exhibitors including not only florists and garden enthusiasts but others whose products and services are associated with gardening and the outdoor environment’.

Ms. Cobbah has urged Ghanaians especially the youth to take advantage for the upcoming show since it can help identify career opportunities that exist in the gardening industry.

She was grateful to Access bank, lead sponsors of the show, Cocoa Processing Company, Dizengoff Ghana Ltd., FC perfumery and Game for their commitment in supporting the show.

Launching the 2014 Garden and Flower show, the Managing Director, FLOBEN’s Creations Designs Ltd., Mrs. Florence Benson said it is sad to notice that most of the places earmarked for gardens in the country have been used for building.

According to her Nigeria and Kenya are making stride and are benefiting enormously from the development of the garden and flower sector but believes if the country start to develop the sector it will be of great advantage.

She urged the youth not to always be looking for white colored job that is non-existence but to venture into the garden and flower business in order to contribute their quota to the development of the state.
