The Ghana Think Foundation Announces A Special Event—Kumasi Konnect


Kumasi Konnect is an initiative by the GhanaThink Foundation, a Ghana and US-based NGO aiming to mobilize and organize for the primary benefit of Ghana. Kumasi Konnect is sponsored by Google via Google Business Group (GBG) Kumasi and mFriday’s TechHub. It seeks to showcase the work of local and international entrepreneurs (social), the impact of their organizations and the opportunities for the youth.

The meet-up will happen every quarter (or more frequently), a gathering at least 40 young energetic and innovative people in Kumasi. It will feature a speaker or set of speakers. There will also be short training presentations for attendees. This event series will commune and engage the network built out of Barcamp Kumasi. The event will also bring together innovators and doers in Kumasi, to interact and share ideas that have the propensity for social and economic impact.

The maiden edition will have Mr. Frank Boateng speak on Turning Passion into Business at the Tech Hub, KNUST on June 25 at 6pm. Mr. Frank Boateng is a serial entrepreneur, executive VP for XP Resources LLC in Houston USA and country MD for EquipXP Mining and Construction Ghana Ltd. He is also the Country Manager for XP Resources Ltd (producers of Darkofresh Natural Mineral Water) in Kumasi. Frank has over fifteen years experience in the Extractive Industry and has helped raised funds and built three gold mines in Ghana and Mauritania.

Frank understands the concept behind Kumasi Konnect and said, ‘This is an exciting opportunity to connect and network with the creative minds of the Region as we challenge ourselves towards development”. Ato Ulzen-Appiah, Director at the GhanaThink Foundation adds, “We are excited about organizing regular conversations in Kumasi. Kumasi Konnect strengthens the network we continue to build with Barcamp Kumasi. We hopes it spurs more networking events in Oseikrom.”

GhanaThink Foundation
GhanaThink Foundation is a Ghana and US Based not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to mobilize and organize talent for the primary benefit of Ghana. It further seeks to support ideas generated into projects and businesses. It has incubated African-focused web applications like Kashorow and Museke. It is currently running the Barcamp Ghana program which is building a network of young changemakers, doers and entrepreneurs in Ghana. Amongst its 30 Barcamps in Ghana since 2008 are 4 Barcamp Kumasi events. Its Junior Camp Ghana program supports high school students with career guidance and mentoring. Its first Junior Camp in Kumasi was held at Armed Forces Senior High School in June 2014. It launched its National Volunteer Day (NVDay) initiative in 2013 with 40 events. NVDay is now part of a Ghana Volunteer Program encouraging more volunteerism in Ghana.

Google Business Group (GBG) Kumasi is a community of business professionals in the Ashanti region sharing knowledge about Google web technologies for business success. It is run by business professionals, passionate about bringing the benefits of the web to their local business communities, on a volunteer, unpaid basis. Collaborating and learning from each other helps everyone achieve more.

GBG Kumasi organizes social gatherings, workshops, online hangouts, larger events and other activities. Like-minded business professionals in Kumasi can connect, learn and get inspired on how Google products and web technologies can improve efficiency, productivity and impact overall success of their business. This could be to better market their company online, successfully sell products or services on the internet or improve internal / external business processes for their organization. Anyone in Ashanti Region is very welcome, if you are an owner of a company, business professional, or just interested in Google products.

Tech Hub is a mobile and web laboratory in Ghana located at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where students are trained as ICT developers and future socially responsible entrepreneurs in the high-tech industry. The TechHub is an initiative nurtured by the Friday group of KNUST, as a partnership between industry and academia to promote innovation and student entrepreneurship and focuses on human capacity development for the mobile web industry in Ghana and has over 210 active members with diverse backgrounds, which reflect the unique inter-disciplinary nature of ICT for Development (ICT4D). The Tech Hub is a place for talented developers and business students from the public and private universities form teams to identify challenges and opportunities, create appropriate projects, and launch successful companies for economic growth and sustainable jobs in Ghana.
