Fix collapsed Dome-Kwabenya bridge now – Adwoa Safo tells government

The Member of Parliament of Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo has appealed to government to as a matter of urgency, reconstruct the bridge that links Dome to Kwabenya to enable motorists and residents to go about their normal duties.

The dilapidated bridge was last week washed away following a heavy downpour, completely cutting off Dome township from Kwabenya, Atomic and Ashongman.

The legislator who inspected the collapsed bridge with some journalists later made a passionate appeal to the Department of Urban Roads (DUR) to immediately come to the aid of her constituents, by awarding the contract through sole-sourcing.

“Government must quickly activate the sole sourcing procedure and award the contract to quickly put back the bridge to ease the burden on motorists and residents who have to spend more time on alternative routes to get to their destination,” noted the MP who is also a specialist in procurement law.

She therefore, called on the DUR to act swiftly to bring an end to the challenges that have arisen in the area as a result of the collapsed bridge.

Ms. Safo also took some time to inspect the dusty alternative road which was making residents along the stretch uncomfortable.

She said the temporal shutdown of the road is likely to impact negatively on economic activities particularly the Dome market, which serves residents in Ashongman Estates, Kwabenya, Haatso and Taifa.

Alarmed by the situation, Ms. Safo also informed Parliament about the ordeal her constituents are going through by delivering a statement on the floor of the House, requesting the government’s immediate assistance.

Meanwhile, the MP has for the past week been visiting basic schools within her constituency to learn at firsthand, how the pupils were progressing with their studies.

She also presented some educational materials to the schools and used the opportunity to wish candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) well.
