Photos: Pupils swim to school in Shama Dist.

Borkokope is a farming community near Daboase junction in the Shama District of the Western Region.

The torrential rains there have flooded all routes leading to the Borkokope Catholic Primary.

The only option for eager and determined pupils seeking to attain at least basic education is to swim their way through the floods to school.

The fortunate ones would have to cram into about a four-foot-wide canoe to cross the flooded areas.

After this daring adventure, which has continued for weeks, the pupils’ effort is sadly dampened by absentee teachers.

The teachers there cannot muster a little courage to cross the floods to impact knowledge into the children.  They prefer staying at home; they have been absent for four consecutive weeks, myjoyonline.com gathered.

The unyielding situation has compelled authorities to shut down the school.
