Adentan Gets MCE At Last

THE GENERAL atmosphere at the Adentan municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra region on thursday was one of great excitement after the assembly members had voted massively to endorse the President’s nominee, Benjamin Baroson Angenu, as the new municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

He polled 17 votes, representing 94% of total votes cast by the 18-member assembly.

Benjamin Baroson Angenu, 42, is a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies (UPS), Madina, and married with three sons.

The Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly, Gladys Naadu Gilead Tetteh, before opening proceedings for the day’s business, read a letter addressed to the assembly dated June 18, 2014 with reference number 1716/67/01/vol.2 and signed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Joseph Nii Laryea Affotey Agbo.

The letter announced the revocation of the appointment of four government nominees serving in the assembly.

The four were, Dr. Catherine Denyinu, Dr. Desmond Aryee-Boi, Mac Charles Tamakloe and Hajia Mahama.

A second letter also announced the appointment of four others to replace the dismissed members.

The new appointees who were sworn in
by Jojo Amoah Hagan, a Magistrate at Madina, were Rita Afua Dela Nyameto, Hajia Fatima Mashud Salifu, Francis Akorlor and Raphael Lokko.

Nii Laryea Affotey Agbo, in a speech, said it was very important for government to revoke the appointment of the four appointees in view of the fact that their actions sought to undermine the progress of good governance in the assembly.

The Regional Minister, who is also the MP for Kpone Katamanso, advised the incoming MCE to live up to the expectation of the people.

Nii Affotey Agbo further reminded the MCE to ignore any interference by questionable characters, show fair play and ensure that decisions taken would help to improve the lives of the people.

The Presiding Member, Gladys Naadu Tetteh, described the confirmation of the MCE as a plus for democracy.

The Member of Parliament for Adentan, Nii Ashie Moore, who was full of praise to God, said he believed ‘the business of the day was a divine visitation to deliver the municipality from the hands of oppressors.’

The assembly had rejected two earlier nominees, including the immediate past MCE, Nubly Kakara VanLare and Gifty Emefa Sika Nartey.
