BEATWAVES investigations have revealed that the recent court suit filed by Nana Ampadu and 100 others against the board of Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) under the leadership of Carlos Sakyi, Amandzeba, K.K Kabobo and Mark Okraku Mantey has created serious division and confusion in the rank and file of musicians and producers.
The situation has become so alarming to the extent that several music rights owners are not on talking terms, making situations quite tough for the organisation.
On one side are the fervent supporters of GHAMRO and its board members led by Carlos Sakyi including veterans Jewel Ackah, Kofi Sammy, Wulomei’s Naa Amanua, King David and several thousands of rights owners, who are satisfied with GHAMRO’s current leadership.
The other faction is also made up of Rex Omar, Obour, Kojo Antwi, Tic Tac and others, who are bent on removing Carlos and others from office.
The producers’ front is also simmering with high tension. John Agbenu of Precise Music and Agyapaye of GAPI have openly endorsed Carlos Sakyi for his transformational leadership.
Powerful music industry organisations like the Association of Music Rights Organisation (AMRO) under J.A. Adofo and C. K. Morrison, National Association Of Ghana Music Producers (NASGAMP) under John Mensah Sarpong, PROMAG, CAMAG and REPPAGH have all pledged their support for Carlos.
Adding to the tension is the recent revelation by John Agbenu and a number of right owners who have threatened legal action against Nana Ampadu for including their names among the 100 who filed a court action against GHAMPRO.
All indications are that the court action has created bad blood in the music industry after enjoying a semblance of unity under GHAMRO’s representative system, which currently seems to be crumbling.
Many are of the opinion that if the case is not amicably resolved with wisdom, it could send the industry back to the dark toxic days.
