ECG opens office in Akyem-Oda to create visibility, improve image

Electricity Company of Ghana has opened an ultra-modern office complex in the Eastern Region as part of efforts to create visibility and improve its image in the public.

The office, located at Akyem-Oda  will also serve surrounding towns and villages as well as four other political districts.

The Akyem-Oda office is among a total of 21 district offices, customer service centres, regional offices and strategically located warehouses nationwide to be commissioned this year.

Recently about forty-five towns and villages in the area were connected to the national grid through the national electrification programme, bringing the total number of towns and communities in the Oda district catchment area to 145.

The move according to the managing director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Rev.Ing.William Hutton Mensah is to inspire confidence in hardworking employees and position the company to deliver high quality services to customers.

The MD was however disturbed about the kind of difficulties associated with land acquisition to improve network projects.

”The major challenge we face in implementing both civil and network improvement projects is that of land acquisition and right of way issues. I want o appeal to all Ghanaians to help ECG in every way possible to enable us provide quality services to support the economic growth and development of Ghana”, he said.

He stated that the company is also implementing major network improvement projects throughout its operational areas.

”Here in the Oda district the primary sub-station has been upgraded from 10MVA to 40MVA capacity” he said.

The ECG has constructed a 33KV double circuit line from the Akwatia bulk supply point to evacuate power to Oda and its environs.

Additionally a byper lane has been constructed from Breman-Asikuma in the Central Region as an alternate means to supply Oda municipality.

This project is expected to result in supply reliability, operative flexibility, reduction in system losses, improve quality of supply and increase capacity to meet new energy demands.

Ing.Hutton Mensah indicated that ”aside generation shortfalls which has imposed supply challenges on ECG, the company also faces other challenges such as the high rate of energy theft, customers unwillingness to pay their bills promptly and the attitudes of some of our employees, as we recognize this challenges we have commenced the implementation of a new strategic plan to address them”, said the MD.
