Mr. Bede Ziedeng, out-going Upper West Regional Minister, has appealed to the Regional Executives and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to respect the decision and authority of the President.
“We may not agree with the President, but we must accord him that respect.” he said, adding; “party activists must therefore refrain from interfering in the President’s decision”, he said.
Mr. Ziedeng was reacting to recent protects by some party members over his replacement as regional minister and the defacement of the Regional and Municipal offices of the NDC in Wa by some irate youth suspected to be NDC supporters.
The out-going regional minister, who inspected offices to ascertain the extent of damage caused to the offices, expressed disappointment at the recent protects by some party members in the municipality, saying: “I and my deputy will not side with the perpetrators or endorse any act that will reduce the image of the President and that of the people in region.’
He advised activists of the party to exercise restraint and abide by the rules and regulations of the party, in an attempt to resolve misunderstandings and other disagreements in the party.
Mr Ziedeng said it was important for the President to carry out his constitutional duties, and pointed out that despite Ghana’s democratic credentials; activists should express their consent in a decent manner.
Some faceless irate youth of NDC on Thursday morning defaced President John Mahama’s portraits and writings on the walls of the offices of the NDC Regional and Municipal Offices with red paint, in an alleged protest against the replacement of Mr. Bede Ziedeng with Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, as the regional minister during the recent ministerial reshuffle.
The front view of the offices had been defaced with inscriptions such as “JM why”, “Why Amidu Again”, and “No Bede, NO JM.
The Ghana News Agency can confirm that no office equipment and other properties belonging to the NDC had been destroyed.
