The new Nasara Coordinator Kamal-Deen Abdulai has hit the ground running with an assortment of programmes to shore up the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Zongo communities.
He was in the thick of things at a national orientation workshop of Nasara regional coordinators held at the South Ridge Hotel, Sunyani, where the officials were apprised of the now postponed limited registration exercise and the role of the party wing, among others.
The theme of the programme was ‘reclaim and recapture the Zongo communities.
The national coordinator said the theme of the programme was informed by the undeniable historical fact of origin of the NPP being in the Zongo communities.
The Sunyani conference was the first activity to be graced by the newly-elected national coordinator since the Tamale conference of the party, which secured him the leadership of the Nasara Club.
He used the opportunity to solicit the support of executives towards the victory of the party in 2016.
The regional coordinators from all the country, who were all present save the Greater Accra Regional Coordinator, were enjoined to support the party executives in their respective regions to market the political grouping.
There was also a capacity-building segment in the programme, the benefits of which would go a long way in assisting the coordinators in the areas of strategic planning and political campaigning.
Alhaji Kamal-Deen charged the coordinators to be neutral in the flagbearer race issue.
‘Let your conscience guide you in deciding on which among the candidates can serve the best interest of the party,’ he charged the regional coordinators.
The coordinators were asked to work on the female head porters, otherwise called Kayayei in their respective areas with a view to having them register during the upcoming limited registration period and to be politically active.
The NPP, the national coordinator pointed out, did very well during the 2000 polls in the Zongo communities, noting that this feat was not maintained in subsequent elections.
This is what the Nasara Club should work at addressing, he charged the regional coordinators.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP, Asomah Cheremeh, in his address to the participants, said NPP is poised to working with the Zongo communities in the run-up to the 2016 polls and subsequent ones.
He recalled how the Kufuor administration reached out positively towards this segment of the country in terms of physical development and how this enhanced the standing of the party in this segment of the political space.
