A one month training in harmonised system and custom tariff nomenclature has ended in Accra.
The programme which was put together by the Inspection and Control Services (ICS) drew participants from the Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Economic and Organised Crime Office and other stakeholders.
At the closing ceremony General Manager of Inspection and Control Service, David Christian was hopeful that the training will help shape the outlook and efficiency of trainees in their various organisations.
He said “the key ingredients in modern custom regulation include expertise in Custom classification. He added that the ICS is imparting this knowledge and skills, so that they will be in a better position to enhance custom revenue mobilisation.
In a speech read on his behalf the Minister of Trade and Industry, Haruna Iddrisu, said government has recognised this programme as a means of reducing the cost of transacting business in the country.
The minister lauded the initiative and acknowledged its relevance to plug the loopholes in classification to enhance revenue generation.
The course was facilitated by Mr Aaron S. Ntwimah, an internationally acknowledged Nomenclature Trainer.
ICS, Ghana started operations in January 2003 and is part of the ICS Group, which comprises various firms with extensive e-government experience and international infrastructure.
The group assists governments in enhancing trade revenue while maintaining controls and facilitating trade.
ICS was established in 1996 to provide governments with effective services designed to enhance customs and tax revenues.
