Let Obasanjo Free Chibok Girls – MURIC

Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged the Nigerian authorities to allow the country former President Olusegun Obasanjo negotiate with Boko Haram leaders to rescue the abducted Chibok girls.

MURICā€™s Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, also criticized the Federal Government over wasting the time in the case which needs immediate action.Ā

“We remind the Federal Government that the primary responsibility of governments is the protection of lives and properties. The buck stops at the table of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.”

Stressing the importance of putting away political games, MURIC recalled the experience of USA, whose leaders acted as mediators in several critical situations:

“Ex-Presidents Jimmy Carter and George Bush of the United States have mediated in several crises around the world… It is also on record that this same ex-President Obasanjo has mediated in Sudan and many other countries.”

Thus Akintola urged the country current leader to let the ex-president to allow him resolve the problem, “regardless of their personal differences”, pointing out that the students’ rescue is the number one task for Nigeria.

It would be recalled that two months ago more than 250 school girls were abducted from Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram insurgents. Weeks after the tragedy the sect leader Abubakar Shekau suggested to swap the girls for the group prisoners. It was said that the negotiator was appointed and the deal was close to being secured when the Nigerian government cancelled it.
