NDC Supporters Protest Bede Ziedeng’s Removal

Outgoing Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Bede Ziedeng, has appealed to supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from acts that could disturb the peace in the region.

He said recent ministerial changes, which had affected the Upper West Region, should not be a catalyst for disturbances within the region.

His comments followed his visit to party offices within the Wa municipality, including the regional headquarters, where aggrieved party supporters had issued various warnings with paint markings in protest particularly against Mr Ziedeng’s removal from the regional ministry.

With remarks such as “No Bede, No JM,” “Why, JM?” inscribed in red paint on the doors and walls of the party offices in Wa, keen observers would not be wrong to say that the action seemed to give full endorsement to the opinion of party executives who had threatened to resign en bloc if President John Mahama failed to rescind the ministerial changes in the region.

The affected party offices were being guarded by armed police officers at the time of the regional minister’s visit in the morning, with doors still locked after 10a.m. The markings had apparently been done under cover of darkness during the previous night’s downpour.

ASP Edmund Nyamekye of the Upper West Regional Police Command told the Daily Graphic that their men had been on guard since 3:30a.m. when they heard about the incident. They were yet to make any arrests, though.

But Mr Ziedeng, who was accompanied by the immediate past Deputy Regional.
