Management of VAG congratulating the executive of the new district led by the executive director Col Chris Nutakor (Rtd)-Right
The Executive Director of Veterans Administration, Ghana, Col Chris Nutakor (rtd), has sworn into office the executive members of the Gomoa East District of the Veterans Administration at a ceremony at the Winneba junction in the Central Region.
The Veterans Administration, Ghana (Act 844) of May 10, 2012, Section 3 (C) empowers management of VAG to establish, organise, and regulate, regional, district and local administrations or branches at convenient centres throughout the country for the purpose of performing some of its basic functions and objectives by ensuring that proper attention is paid to the welfare of military veterans honourably released from the military and see to the maintenance and comfort of those who require special treatment, particularly the disabled, the sick, the aged, the infirm, the needy and the destitute.
It is when the administration is decentralised down to the district levels that the voice of the veteran, who is in need of support and advice could be heard through his or her district. Management is, therefore, making strenuous efforts to encourage veterans throughout the country to belong to a district within his or her community. The formation of districts is critical to the smooth and efficient running of VAG. The Regional Officer, CPOI Kingsley Korsah, under whose jurisdiction the Gomoa East District would be administered, also attended the ceremony with his staff from Cape Coast.
The swearing-in of the executive members was performed by the Executive Director.
He was assisted by the Patron of the District Col Anthony Asare (rtd), head of Security of the University of Education, Winneba.
In his address to the executive and members of the district, the Executive Director appealed to the executive to be as transparent and accountable as much as possible to the members. He said it is the only way members would have confidence to rally behind it in all its programmes and activities.
The function took place at the premises offered by Madam Theresa Owusu Agyei, proprietress of DOMTES BAR, located at the Winneba junction, who freely offered a space at her restaurant for all functions of the district. She graciously chaired the function to the admiration of the Executive Director who expressed his appreciation to her for her kindness, co-operation and understanding.
The Odikro of Gomoa Pomadze, Nana Apata Kofi II and Nana Otu Gyan Nkosuohene of Gomoa Asebu, were in attendance with their elders to grace the occasion.
The executive of the newly created district is made up of; Chairman; Ex WOI James Oscar Sekyi, Secretary; Ex WOI K.A. Akorful, Treasurer; WOI Robert Turkson and Assistant Secretary; Ex-WOI Samuel Oquarm.
Ex-S/Sgt Madam Mercy Donkor and Madam Mary Ahinful are the Women Organiser and Financial Secretary respectively.
