The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, has commended CAMFED Ghana, an NGO that is into the empowerment of women and the promotion of female child education in the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and Central regions.
The Northern Regional Minister noted that CAMFED Ghana has made telling contributions to the development and empowerment of women and female children in their operational areas.
“The example shown by CAMFED is indeed exemplary and I want to once again commend you for your relentless effort in supporting government by identifying the educational gaps and campaigning to support female education in some parts of the country, which has resulted in today’s ceremony, among others.”
The Minister made this known at a ceremony in Nyankpala to mark this year’s Camfed Ghana’s School Leavers’ Induction Ceremony for 956 beneficiaries completing Senior High School in 2014.
The programme was to help the Camfed Alumni to learn more on higher education opportunities available in the country and to also give them an insight into the kind of community service that will afford them the opportunity to give back to their communities.
The Northern Regional Minister charged the girls to justify the confidence and trust reposed in them by Camfed Ghana to lead change in their various communities to alleviate the sufferings of their people and also to be worthy ambassadors of change and development wherever they find themselves.
He also called on Camfed Ghana to do more in helping the government in its effort to improve female education and the empowerment of women in the country, and pledged government’s commitment to partner other NGOs in that direction.
“The overall effect of all measures will be the improvement in providing quality education at all levels, which is a necessary prerequisite for development. In that direction, government will continue to partner NGOs and other development partners.”
The Executive Director of Camfed Ghana, Mrs Delores Dickson, noted that Camfed Ghana since 1998 has established 721 schools in 30 districts in the Northern and Central regions. “Camfed has made telling contributions to the development and empowerment of women and improving girl-child education in Ghana,” she added.
She also pledged Camfed Ghana’s commitment to partner the Ghana Education Service to scale up the number of female teacher trainees.
The ceremony attracted chiefs from the area and some ambassadors of the empowerment and development of women and the girl-child, which included Dr Gifty Antie, and members of Camfed Zimbabwe.
