About one thousand job seekers are set to gain employment as work begins in Kumasi on what is expected to become the biggest shopping mall in West Africa.
The one hundred and ten million dollar project is being undertaken by Delico Ghana, a subsidiary of a Mauritius property development firm.
The A-grade Mall which officials say will be completed by two years sits on a 15.43 acre of land at Asokwa.
Director of the company, Kofi Sekyere revealed that one thousand people will get jobs during the construction phase.
An additional five hundred people are expected to be employed by tenants within the mall whiles fifty more will be employed for the property and facilities management after its construction.
Kofi Sekyere believes the project will bring positive social impact on the local economy due to the employment it will provide and the subsequent impact on respective families.
At the sod-cutting ceremony, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second charged chiefs to shunthe indiscriminate land sale with little or no attention to the welfare of their subjects.
He says the tendency for chiefs to over-rely on government for development projects when the resources better the lives of their people should stop.
The Asantehene reminded his Chiefs and people that all lands are vested in the Asanteman stool as such he would ensure that the lease of lands for productive and economically viable development projects would always supersede the sale of lands by chiefs for any other purposes.
Ashanti regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong welcomed the project and called on more investors into the region.
He believes the coming of the Mall is a great step to making Kumasi an industrial hub for the northern sector of the country.
Mr. Sarpong called on more investors and the people of Kumasi to give meaning to what he says is a bold investment initiative by Delico Limited.
