Nigeria former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari on Monday cautioned the new Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on his new status.

Buhari in a statement issued in Kaduna, said that it was God that elevated Sanusi to the throne, and advised him to rule with divine fear.

He said the new Emir should fear God and treat all the people of Kano as those under his care and supervision.

“You should cultivate all and exclude none,” Buhari said. “Your immediate duty is to rally the people to support the government in fighting terrorism and unrest. You should also bring your wealth of experience in assisting the economic revival of the state and the country.”

The former head of state reminded the former CBN governor that he is assuming an office that was once occupied by great historical figures like; Muhammadu Rumfa, Ibrahim Dabo, Abdullahi Bayero, as well as Muhammadu Sanusi.

He urged the new Emir to endeavor to be a worthy successor to those great men.

Meanwhile, the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan and his ruling part, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems to be having difficulties finding the right words to congratulate the new Emir of Kano.

It would be recalled that few months ago, Sanusi was controversially sacked as the Central Bank of Nigeria governor by the Jonathan-led administration. He was accused of aiding terrorism and also accused of financial recklessness by the PDP-led government. He recently defeated the federal government in court over the confiscation of his travelling documents.

However, it was alleged that the president and his party did everything humanly possible to stop Sanusi from attaining his new powerful status- Emir of Kano, but to no avail as the four kingmakers in the Kano emirate had already given their blessing to the former CBN governor.
