Ismaila Numan, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who made this known to journalists, said the accident involved a bullion van with registration number GGE 256 AR, and a Police Hilux vehicle as well as Hiace Toyota bus marked NS 36A26, belonging to Nasarawa Express.

According to him, the tragedy which happened at Wagan village, a few metres before Nasarawa-Eggon, was caused by dangerous and reckless overtaking on the part of the commercial driver who had a head-on collision with the police vehicle.

Numan confirmed that one police officer and three passengers died on the spot while seven others were rushed to Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, for medical attention.

“The said accident involved four police officers, but only one died. Three others who sustained injuries were rushed to a Specialist hospital here in Lafia, and as I am speaking now, two persons have been discharged today. So, we have only one officer at the hospital now” he said.

An eyewitness, however, claimed that it was 10 people that sustained injuries while four policemen and eight passages lost their lives in the auto crash.
