The Swede carded a seven-under-par final round of 65 to force an additional hole at the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg.
Home hope Wiesberger had trailed overnight leader and defending champion Joost Luiten by two strokes heading into the final day, but leapfrogged the Dutchman with a round of 69 to reach 12 under for the tournament and keep his hopes of regaining the crown he won two years ago alive.
The Austrian would have avoided the extra hole and sealed glory if not for two bogeys, the second of which came on the par-five 16th.
And the 2012 champion, who was eyeing a place in the US Open – which starts on Thursday – with victory, was left stunned in the play-off as Lundberg secured triumph in amazing fashion.
The 40-year-old holed an unlikely birdie putt from 40 feet, and it was an accomplishment that Wiesberger was unable to match as his attempt from around half the distance proved unsuccessful.
As a result, Wiesberger will now have to wait for the results from the US PGA Tour’s FedEx St Jude Classic to see if he can compete in the second major of the year at Pinehurst.
Meanwhile, Luiten’s hopes of retaining the title fell by the wayside with an erratic level-par round of 72.
Luiten bogeyed three of the first nine holes and, despite only dropping one shot on the back nine, could not recover as he finished one shot shy of the leading pair.
England’s Lee Slattery surged up the leaderboard to finish fourth on 10 under, two ahead of Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti and Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who will head into the US Open on the back of a top-five finish.
