Gunmen Attack Kwara Council Staff

Baba Seriki-Sanu, the Treasurer of the Kaiama Emirate Council Area of Kwara State, was on Saturday shot dead by gunmen.

The council treasurer, who was in a bus with other colleagues were heading to Ilorin for a screening exercise when the assailants attacked them between Kaiama town and Gwaria, a village in the local council.

It was gathered that Seriki-Sanu died on the spot while other staff members who were hacked with cutlass were taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

Kaiama Divisonal Police Officer (DPO), Christopher Okun, confirmed the attack, and hinted that no arrest had been made so far.

Alhassan Bagudu, the council chairman who also confirmed the incident, said it was shocking and pathetic.

He used the opportunity to urge the government to quickly construct the Kaiama/Kishi road as its deplorable condition was causing great danger to motorist and other road users.

According to him, gunmen were using the deplorable condition of the road to terrorise and rob road users and residents. 

It was gathered that the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, when the state command spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, was contacted, he said he was yet to be briefed on the attack.
