Moore only lasted six minutes in his maiden Test as captain after suffering a suspected medial ligament injury to his left knee but the 31-year-old heaped praise on his team-mates after they demolished France in their first international of 2014.
Australia scored seven unanswered tries before France finally opened their account in the 73rd minute and Moore was delighted with what his team-mates produced in a slick performance against an undermanned French side.
“It was a great start for us, I thought the boys were awesome,” the veteran hooker said.
“Unfortunately I wasn’t out there for much of it but the boys did a great job and scored some great tries.
“I thought our attack was really good, we haven’t had too much chance to work on it during the week but it came together pretty nicely.
“We said during the week it was important for us to start with a win so it’s great to do that.”
Moore, who is in severe doubt for the second Test in Melbourne on June 14, added of his injury: “It’s a little bit sore but that’s just what happens. I’ll go and have a scan and see how it is.”
While he is a long shot to be available for next week’s game, Moore warned his players to prepare for a backlash from the tourists.
“I don’t think they’ll take a loss like that too well and we expect them to make a lot of changes,” he said.
“There’s probably some guys that missed this game that we thought would play anyway so they might come back into the side.
“But we’ll see what happens and we need to have another good week of preparation and if we do that hopefully we’ll play well again.”
Coach Ewen McKenzie conceded his charges can still improve but was also pleased with their first-up performance.
“I just that we were able to find ways to score points. Seven tries is a good effort first up, we haven’t been successful in the first Test the last few years so it’s a good start,” McKenzie said.
“There’s plenty to tidy up obviously but the guys kept at it so it’s quite pleasing.
“France got pretty tricky at the end and we knew they were going to throw the ball around and they got some points but I still thought we hung in there pretty well.”
