Students of Owerriman Senior High Technical get relief after six years of sleeping in classrooms

Students of Owerriman Senior High Technical School in the Asante Akyem North District now have a respite after years of sleeping in classrooms.

It follows the construction of a 200 capacity dormitory block by MTN Foundation at the cost of over 400,000 Ghana Cedis.

School authorities say accommodation challenges posed by the back and forth of duration of the second-cycle education system compelled the school to sacrifice the comfort of males for females.

Boys moved into classrooms converted for their habitation while girls occupied the male designated dormitory.

Congestion and poor ventilation exposed students to skin and respiratory diseases, among other problems.

Even then it was a privilege for students to be admitted into residence strictly on first-come, first-served basis.

Students who report late from vacation will have to make due on the floor.

The 16 triple-decker bed dormitory by MTN comes as a huge relief to students, and even the townsfolk who began contributing money at the ceremony for maintenance.

Board Chairman of MTN, Professor Franklin Manu, is excited by the response from natives.

Headmaster, Nana Kwasi Konadu Yiadom, was excited about the gesture and promised to ensure it improves teaching and learning.
