Police and the military in the Ashanti Region say they are determined to rid the two security agencies of bad nuts.
This follows the arrest of a fake soldier while his accomplice, a military officer, is on the run.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, has warned that unscrupulous personnel who hide behind their uniforms to commit crimes would be made to face the law.
Twenty-five-year-old Plaster of Paris (POP) manufacturer, Kwame Asare, was arrested by a police night patrol team on the outskirts of Anwiankwanta on the main Kumasi-Manso Road.
He was found in the company of the now fugitive military officer, Lance Corporal Osei- Assibey.
They were using a flash light to order motorists to stop in what police believe was an attempt to rob the motorists.
DCOP Kofi Boakye expressed worry at the development. ‘It is quiet unfortunate that some of our own colleagues have decided to join criminals in their criminal activities’, he said.
He said the incident was a clear indication that some of officers were culpable in some of the violent crimes committed in the country.
He recalled the arrest of a police officer in Accra recently as some of the bad nuts found in the security services.
‘Military man, giving military uniform…full set to somebody like this is an indicative of the fact that they were about to commit crime’, he fumed.
Police say the Anwiankwanta-MansoNkwanta road remains vulnerable to activities of highway robbers.
DCOP Boakye said the military officer who is currently on the run and several others like him are unfit to remain in the security services.
He says the police will liaise with the military command to trace Lance Corporal Osei Assibey.
‘Let me take this opportunity to sound a note of caution to all our men that if you don’t want to be a military man; if you don’t want to be a policeman, its better you quit before something happens to you’, he admonished.
