THE GENERAL Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, has disclosed that the Council had taken over the responsibility of hosting the annual National Week of Prayers and Thanksgiving.

The General Secretary made this disclosure to media practitioners in a Pastoral Letter he read at the auditorium of the Council at Osu, Accra, on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong, who doubles as the National Coordinator for the event, said the celebration would commence June 30 and end on July 6, 2014.

He indicated that the celebration of the Week of Prayers and Thanksgiving, which would be under the theme, ‘Bind Us Together Oh Lord’ (John17:21), would involve all members of the CCG throughout the country.

The members of the Council are the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACC), Ghana Pentecostal Council (GPC), Council of Independent Churches (CIC) and the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS).

He added that members within the Accra Metropolis would converge at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka, while similar gatherings would be at designated centres at the local, district and regional levels to climax the week-long event on Sunday, July 6.

The National Coordinator explained that the Christian community derives inspirations from 1Thessalonians 5:17-18 and 1Timothy 2:1-3, which admonishes them to intercede for individuals and the nation, adding that prayer is the pivot around which the spiritual journey, national life and development revolve.

He asserted that the decision to take up the responsibility was arrived at during a meeting between representatives of member churches of the CCG and President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on March 17, 2014.

The Communications Manager for Christian Community Microfinance Limited (CCML), Kojo Oppong-Adjei, said the CCML was happy to finance the press conference which announced the reengagement of the CCG for the Week of Prayers and Thanksgiving.

According to Mr. Kojo Oppong-Adjei, the CCML was founded by the Christian Council 35 years ago, and expressed satisfaction that it had over the years financed a number of church as well as individual projects.
