NLC takes POTAG to court

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has filed an application in court to compel polytechnic teachers to call off their three-week old strike.

According to Citifmonline.com, the acting Executive Secretary of the NLC, Dr Bernice Welbeck said the strike was illegal since the Polytechnic Teachers Association (POTAG) failed to comply with the provisions of the Labour Act, regarding notification to embark on a strike.

POTAG has since May laid down their tools protesting the non-payment of their book and research allowance.

Meanwhile, members of POTAG say they are ready to defend their action in court

According to them, they will only return to the classroom when their demands are met.

Polytechnic students have also demonstrated against government for failing to give in to the demands of the lecturers which has brought all academic work to a halt.
