The Chief of Busunya, the Nkoranza North Capital, Nana Okofo Gyabaa II, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for listening to the cry of the people in the area and completing the construction of the main road that connects Nkoranza and Busunya.

According to the Chief, successive governments from the beginning of the constitutional rule era have continually promised to construct the road but they all failed to honour their promises. That the promises had always come during electioneering time in order to amass the people’s votes.

Nana Okofo Gyabaa Il led the youth in his town prior to the 2012 elections to demonstrate and hold series of press conferences to register their displeasure to president Mahama over the bad nature of their roads, especially the one that serves as their main route to Nkoranza, the biggest market town of that traditional area.

Nkoranza, which is the capital of Nkoranza South district, has one of the bigger markets in the Brong Ahafo region and most of the food stuffs brought to the market come from the Nkoranza north district which is a true farming area, and the said road is one that links the two districts. But the unmotorable state of the road had been the greatest challenge to the farmers as they could not transport their harvested food stuffs to the market or had buyers to their farms and communities to purchase them while there are no storage facilities available in the district.

Work on the Nkoranza-Busunya road saw the commencement of construction on the dieing days of the New Patriotic Party’s administration and so as the party lost power, the work came to stand still. But the road has now been constructed by the NDC government.

Nana Okofo Gyabaa II after the construction of the road from his town to Nkoranza, has in an interview with the press announced that he is applauding president John Mahama, the First Lady Lordina Mahama who is a daughter of the Nkoranza North district and the DCE of Nkoranza North Mr. Kwadwo Agyei Dwomoh for heading their call and constructing a well tarred road for him and his people.Nana commented that his strive for the construction of the road was misconceived by many, especially those in the NDC, as a campaign against the NDC government but he only meant well for his people for whose welfare he was made the chief.

He added that steps of that nature is what chiefs are expected to take but not taking tokens from people in positions at the detriment of the development of their communities. He added that his fight for the road triggered conflict between him, the DCE and some members of the NDC but that they are presently living in perfect peace and harmony.

The Busunya Chief who is also the patron of one of the young but well performing football clubs in the area,Okofo stars, has advised politicians not to see chiefs who are after the progress of their towns as saboteurs buts real agents of development.

Nana Okofo GyabaaII, however, appealed to the government to keep eagle eyes on a contractor who is working on the streets of his town, Busunya because the work is being done at a snail pace and it seems the contractor does not have the necessary equipment for the work.
