Lee Westwood eager to challenge ahead of US Open

The Englishman, still chasing an elusive first major victory, is part of a strong field in action at TPC Southwind this week.

Westwood’s last PGA Tour win came at the St Jude Classic in 2010 and the 41-year-old is determined to challenge again ahead of the US Open starting on June 12.

“I think obviously being the week before the US Open, that’s good for me,” he said.

“I like to be competitive the week before the major championships.

“I’m going to be competitive in all of them this year and obviously I like the place and I’ve had a lot of success here.”

Westwood is happy with the state of his putting and short game, but is still working on getting his swing back to its best.

“The greens here, they’re immaculate really,” he said.

“There’s no excuses for not making putts. I’ve been putting well, I’ve been rolling the ball well and that’s the reason why I’ve been scoring well I think.

“Still working on my swing, trying to get that where I want it, but my short game and putting has been strong.”
