Hearts goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy is disappointed his side could not hold on to grab second CAF Champions League spot at the end of the next season.

The Phobians missed out on finishing second in the Ghana Premier League after a 2-2 draw with New Edubiase United at home.

Hearts were on the verge of bagging the points when referee SB Bortey awarded a contentious stoppage time penalty for Asiedu Attobrah to convert.

They finished one point behind Heart of Lions, who were beaten 3-1 at AshantiGold.

McCarthy, 30, admitted he was looking forward to playing in CAF’S flagship competition.

‘I am human and off course I would have loved to play in Champions League next season. We were seconds away from finishing in second place and it hurts not be there,’ McCarthy told GHANASoccernet.com

‘We will rise again stronger next season to fight again but we were hoping to make it this year.’
