Demo Hits Mahama

Information DAILY GUIDE has gathered indicates that most of the NDC youth in the area are peeved by the President’s decision to sack their Member of Parliament (MP), Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, as the position of Local Government Minister.

The President, with the powers vested in him by the Constitution, last Friday revoked the appointment of Mr. Oppong-Fosu.

The NDC youth have described the decision as a ‘painful one, and a serious punishment meted out to the good people of Amenfi East and the Western Region as a whole.’

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the youth were therefore preparing themselves to hit the streets of Wassa Akropong in their numbers this morning to tell President Mahama that he had not dealt with the people of Wassa Amenfi East fairly.

Nicholas Bimpong, Chairman of the group, noted at a press briefing that for the first time since 1992, the NDC was able to win 18 seats out of the 26 in the Western Region.

He added that the Wassa Amenfi East constituency had been in the hands of the New Patriotic Party for 12 years and that it was due to the hard work of the party that the NDC was able to win the constituency seat in the last general elections.

‘When one compares the number of ministerial appointments allocated to the Western, Upper West and Eastern Regions, one will not doubt that indeed the Western Region has been marginalized’, he asserted.

He continued, ‘The Western Region has only two cabinet ministers with two deputy ministers and sacking Mr. Oppong-Fosu from the Local Government Ministry without reassigning him is very painful and need reconsideration by the President’.

Bimpong lamented, ‘If the performance of the NDC in the constituency during the 2012 elections was not anything worth considering, then it is unfortunate,’ he observed.

‘We are therefore petitioning the President to reconsider his decision by reassigning our MP to another position to give the party here a tool for our 2016 campaign,’ he appealed.
