According to BBC Hausa reports, the administrative buildings of Madagali and a Roman catholic church, opposite the army outpost were burnt down, and two people were killed.

The terrorists gathered in Maisuru-Dawa village during the early hours of Thursday, before launching the main assault. The attack on Madagali lasted for approximately three hours and ended at about 10.20am.

An unnamed source of The Punch revealed that the Special Forces, defending the area, were outnumbered and were in dire need of reinforcements.

The help came from the air. A military jet fighter was deployed to help the military to repel the attack.

It was stated however that the timely response of the military saved the day as the insurgents were chased away by immediate reinforcements and a military jet deployed for the operation. The attackers were dispersed for fear of being bombed.

DHQ Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, confirmed the development to a correspondent of The Punch.

He applauded the troops for repelling the attack on Madagali, tagged the actions of the military as timely.

The general further urged the members of the Madagali community to cooperate with security agencies during attacks, rather than focusing on their contacts with the media.

Despite being repelled by the defenders of Madagali town, Boko Haram militants were able to kill an unspecified number of villagers and one soldier in Kwabula Village of Madagali LGA, a source of SaharaReporters revealed.

It would be recalled that Madagali Local Government Area was targeted by the insurgents for multiple times in the past few months.

A soldier, two civilians and two terrorists were killed during a gun battle on April 23, 2014, during an attack on the military checkpoint near Sabongari Hyambula village.

On May 16, 2014, vigilantes of Madagali town ambushed and killed at least 70 starving Boko Haram members, who came to the town to pick up some food and supplies. Over a dozen of terrorists have been reportedly captured alive.

However, the militants returned to Kubla, in the night of May 24-25, 2014, mostly for stealing food items and burning houses.
