MTN Unveils ’21 Days Of Y’ello Care’

MTN Ghana has unveiled the 8 th edition of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative dubbed, MTN 21 Days of Y’ello Care.

The telecom company has used the CSR programme to improve the lives of people through volunteerism over the past eight years.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN, Serame Taukobong, in a speech to officially launch this year’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care in Accra on Monday, said the 21 Days of Y’ello Care Challenge is a competition among MTN operations spread across Africa to secure the highest number of staff involved in volunteerism.

This year’s theme for the social intervention, organized in the month of June every year, is ‘Investing in Education for All,’ he said.

According to the CEO, investing in education was a top priority for the leading telecommunication company.

‘The theme emphasizes MTN’s great interest in education across all our 22 operations. Education is one of the key focus areas for the MTN Foundation and remains one of the most important investments a country can make in its people,’ Mr. Taukobong stated.

He noted that in line with MTN’s vision, the company’s volunteers have chosen to build e-libraries in Accra, Kumasi and Tarkwa throughout the period.

‘These e-libraries will open up access to over 40,000 e-books from around the world on a wide range of subjects from the sciences to the arts and much more,’ according to Mr. Taukobong.

He urged all customers of MTN to send ‘Yello Care’ to Short Code 1340 to make their contributions to the charity programme, adding that ‘proceeds from the short code will be used to purchase equipment such as laptops, tablets, modems, routers to motivate teachers in selected schools across the country.’
