Prophet Nkansah
Even before an Accra Circuit Court could consider his application for bail over a charge of robbery, the woes of Prophet Daniel Yaw Nkansah, founder of the New Vision Party (NVP), have deepened.
This time around, an Accra High Court has cited him for contempt after he allegedly disobeyed the court’s order.
Prophet Nkansah is reported to be involved in a dispute with one Sikiratu Obe over a parcel of land – a case on which the court had ruled in favour of the woman.
Following the court’s ruling, the pastor-turned politician allegedly led thugs to vandalize property on the land.
The controversial man of God was caged by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Francis Obiri, after the police had accused him of playing hide-and-seek with them when an issue of robbery he was allegedly involved in was reported.
He renewed his bail application yesterday but the court once again refused to grant him the bail and was asked to reappear on June 9.
Just as he was being sent to the court’s cell, one Fati Issah, who was said to be the daughter of Sikiratu Obe, brought court documents which she claimed were the summons for contempt issued on April 7, 2014.
As at 1:00 pm he was still in the court cells and it was unclear whether the claimant could serve him with the contempt documents.
Prophet Nkansah, leader of New Vision Party and head of the New Vision Pentecostal Church in Accra, is facing six counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery with his son, Daniel Boahene Nkansah Jnr, and eight others, two of who are currently at large.
They are said to have robbed one Stephen Ped Andam, a tenant in Prophet Nkansah’s store at Atico Junction in Accra on February 1, of his Samsung S4, iPhone, Dell laptop with charger, cheque books, international driver’s licence, certificates, iPad 32GB and cash of GH¢55,000.
Prophet Nkansah, in connivance with his son and the 10 others, are also alleged to have made away with a Blackberry Q10 mobile phone and cash of GH¢500 belonging to one Geshon Essel, while another person, Billy Apeku Ken, also claims his Samsung mobile phone, Dell laptop and cash of GH¢750 are missing.
The fourth complainant, Isaac Tetteh Korgbey, is also accusing the man of God and the others, of the disappearance of his Dell laptop and Sony video camera. One Emmanuel Nana Kwaku Badu has also complained of his missing wallet containing GH¢1,000 and I.D. cards.
At the trial yesterday, a state prosecutor holding brief for John Tulasi, the substantive State Attorney in the case, said the state would file an affidavit in opposition to a bail application filed in respect of Samuel Kweku, alias Sammy Tuga.
