ALEXANDER GRAHAM, a Circuit Court judge at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, has openly bemoaned what he termed as the slow pace at which the Attorney General’s (AG’s) Department offers advice on robbery and murder cases, sent to it (Department) from Obuasi.

He disclosed that some murder and robbery cases before court had been adjourned for five years running because the AG’s Department was yet to offer advice on such cases.

The Circuit Court judge said he was in dilemma because the same AG’s Department was quick in offering advice on motor and traffic-related cases that were sent to it.

Mr. Graham indicated that the snail-pace approach by the AG’s Department as far advice on murder and robbery cases was concerned, was hampering the work of the court at Obuasi and called for a change of attitude.

He expressed these concerns when DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and Mr. Ofori Agyeman Boadi, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), paid an official visit to him at his office.

Mr. Graham said the AG’s attitude often resulted in witnesses in such cases refusing to show up in court, adding that people on bail sometimes absconded owing to the frequent adjournments of their cases.

He was of the view that if the Department expedited action on murder and robbery cases, the work of the Obuasi Circuit Court would be enhanced.

DCOP Kofi Boakye gave the assurance that he would personally write to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to ensure that the delays were stopped.

He also asserted that more police prosecutors would be posted to Obuasi soon and urged the judge and his colleagues to cooperate with them (prosecutors).

The MCE, Mr. Ofori Agyeman Boadi, said his office would also intervene to ensure that murder and robbery cases were adjudicated in dispatch.
