Head on: Nico Rosberg ready for Lewis Hamilton challenge

Rosberg regained the lead in Formula One’s drivers’ championship with his victory in Monaco last month putting him four points clear of Hamilton.

The fierce battle has led to a frosty relationship between the pair, who held clear-the-air talks ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.

Rosberg knows how important it was to break Hamilton’s momentum of four straight wins and expects their intense rivalry to continue throughout 2014.

“He has been on top of his game so it was important for me to break his momentum last weekend,” he said.

“I now have the lead again in the world championship which is great, but it’s still very early days and it’s going to continue to be an extremely tight battle between us this year.

“Montreal is one of my favourite venues. It’s a beautiful but also crazy city where there is always a lot happening.”

Hamilton has enjoyed the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where he has won three times, and the Brit is looking forward to returning to Montreal.

“Montreal is one of my favourite weekends of the year. It’s where I won my first grand prix back in 2007 and I’ve had another two victories there since, so it holds some special memories for me,” he said.

“The city itself is incredible. It’s one I always love to go to and there’s always a great crowd, so I’m hoping for them that the weather is good and we can put on a great show.”
