Happy 98.9 FM in collaboration with UT Life Insurance has organised a blood donation exercise to help replenish the blood banks of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital.

Held at the premises of the UT Life building located at Kisseiman, over 150 pints of blood were recorded.

Emmanuel Akrumah, General Manager of Happy FM in an interview revealed that ‘running short on blood means more lives are on the run but it should be noted that blood is critical to the survival of patients, particularly, women and children. Patients lose their lives as a result of lack of blood in their system and the unavailability of blood at an immediate source to help replace.

The best way we can save the lives of our people is to donate to supplement the blood bank.

Happy FM is committed to educating and encouraging more donors to give blood to help save lives. This is not the very first time Happy FM and UT are embarking on such humanitarian exercise, we will continue to affect lives in the Ghanaian community in our best capacity. We thank all who made the effort to come and donate to support this course,’ he concluded.

Supported by GIZ, The blood donation exercise lasted for about 10 hours from 7:00am to 5:00pm. There were free screening and health checks for participants by qualified medical professionals.

However, 38 willing participants were disqualified from donating due to high blood pressure and malaria.
