Drug Trafficking: Court Jails Deaf And Dumb For Three Years

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a 32-year old deaf and dumb, Aliu Sanni, to a three-year jail term.

According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, the accused was caught dealing in cocaine.

It was gathered that Justice M.B. Idris gave the judgement after Aliu had pleaded guilty to one count bordering on dealing in about 17.8 kilogrammes of cocaine.

Mr. Orji Kalu, counsel to the NDLEA, informed the court that Aliu was arrested on March 26, 2014 at Young Shall Grow Motor Park, Iddo, Lagos, while trying to move the narcotic out of Lagos.

He stated that the offence violate Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Law of the Federation, 2004.

While delivering judgement, Justice Idris said it would serve as a deterrent to others dealing in illicit drugs.

“Since the accused had pleaded guilty to the charge before this court, he is hereby convicted as charged.

“The convict was completely aware of his commercial activities in restricted drugs and so he must be punished.

“He is accordingly sentenced to three years imprisonment beginning from the day of arrest.

“The sentence of the convict shall serve as a warning signal to other drug traffickers.” Idris said.

It was reported last month that the accused was remanded in prison for trafficking drug.
