Jerry Akaminko Injury

Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah and the rest of the Ghanaian contingent received an injury blow in camp on the eve of  the naming of final 23-man for the World Cup in Brazil, as promising defender Jerry Akaminko was stretchered off in Ghana’s  pre-World Cup friendly with the Netherlands.

Akaminko, who was a very likely candidate to feature for Ghana’s defense at the finals, was stretchered off in the 90th minute when he picked up an ankle injury after landing in a rather awkward manner. He suffered a fracture to his left ankle joint.

The defender, who plies his trade in Turkey, will undergo surgery on his left ankle, which could keep him out of the game for about a three-month period.

He underwent medical tests in Rotterdam on Saturday night, after which it was confirmed by Ghana team doctor Adam Baba that Akaminko would miss the soccer showpiece event in Brazil.

‘X-rays have revealed that there is a fracture to the left ankle joint- that is the fracture of the fibula bone. What will have to be done is surgery,’ Dr. Baba told Ghanafa.org

‘If surgery is done depending on his rehabilitation we will give him at least three months to be able to fully recuperate from the injury and start playing.’
