Injured Australia prop Ben Alexander to miss Test series with France

Alexander, who plays for Super Rugby side Brumbies, had been picked as part of the Wallabies’ squad for the series, which begins in six days’ time.

However, it has now been agreed that the 29-year-old should sit out for the visit of Phillipe Saint-Andre’s men, with Paddy Ran of Waratahs taking his place in the squad.

“The injury is one I understand quite well being a former tight head prop and while not a sinister issue, it can significantly influence performance due to the impact it has on a player’s overall strength,” Australia coach Ewen McKenzie said.

“In Ben’s instance, it has been admirable to see him push through the pain at a Super Rugby level.

“However, when you consider the challenge we’ll face against an extremely physical and abrasive French scrum, we all agreed it would be better suited for Ben to use the upcoming period to rehab the injury and re-gain his strength.”

The series begins on Saturday in Brisbane before further Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.
