Ghana go down to the Oranje

Ghana lost 1-0 to the Netherlands but an injury suffered by Jerry Akaminko late on in the game will give the Black Stars lots of concern.

The Black Stars defender was stretched off during injury time with his side down by a first half lead.

After a slow start at the De Kuip Arena on Saturday night, the Oranje managed to jump into the lead under five minutes when Robin Van Persie tapped into the net, a cut-back by Wesley Sneijder.

With both teams having qualified for next month’s World Cup, Saturday’s match gave Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah a chance to assess their preparations.

Ghana after going down, gradually warmed themselves back into the game but could not find a way past the Dutch defence as the hosts dominated the first half and squandered a series of opportunities to score.

Dutch winger Arjen Robben missed a simple tap-in from four yards in the 11th minute and he was twice denied by Black Stars goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey.

The second half saw an improved Black Stars as coach Appiah ringed the changes and tweaked his side’s approach to the game.

Ghana’s next warm-up match is against South Korea on June 9 in Miami as they travel to the United States on Sunday.

The Black Stars are in the Group G at the World Cup, along with Germany, Portugal and the United States.
