Relegation blues rival Kotoko v Hearts ‘Super Clash’

On a weekend where the ‘Super Clash’ would have naturally been the talking point in the Premier League, the battle to avoid relegation has rather taken centre stage.

The penultimate fixtures in the First Capital Plus Premier League will go down in the history of Ghana football as one of the most-competitive.

Interestingly, the relegation battle is shaping up to be one of the most hotly-contested ever, as 12 Clubs – right from fifth place downwards – still at risk of slipping through the exit door with the exception on Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions, Hearts of Oak and Wa All Stars.

Three teams will be demoted after the final day matches but that could even been confirmed this weekend if the bottom three – King Faisal, Ebusua Dwarfs and Amidaus Professionals – all lose on their travels.

All the games on Sunday kick off at 15:15GMT [3:15pm local time].

Champions elect, Asante Kotoko will celebrate their third-straight title at home on Sunday when they welcome rivals, Hearts of Oak, who are lying third and pushing for the second Champions League slot at the Baba Yara Stadium in the ‘Super Clash’.

There is all to play for in this game as Kotoko aim to beat their rivals and party on while the Phobians chase second place and aim to spoil the celebration party in Kumasi.

Sitting in second place, Heart of Lions could seal a first attempt in continental football with passage to the Champions League if they beat King Faisal at the Kpando Park. And a win for the home side could affect Faisal’s chances of staying in the top-flight for next season.

New Edubiase are also in danger as they sit just two points above the relegation zone but will have the home support at the Gyamfi Park when they face Wa All Stars who are in fourth place.

Level on points, 39 apiece, Liberty Professionals and AshantiGold meet at the Carl Reindorf grounds and a win for either side or a draw will secure their premiership status.

Bechem’s downturn in form has seen them drop to 12th position and just two points above safety but they can improve if they beat Medeama at the Bechem Park.

Second from bottom, Dwarfs travel to the Essipon Stadium to meet Hasaacas in search of all three points.

Elsewhere, Inter Allies and Aduana Stars, both level on points, 37, face off at the Tema Stadium.

And finally at the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea, sitting two points above the drop need a win over bottom side, Amidaus to pull away.
