Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg resolve issues

Hamilton was left fuming following a controversial qualifying session for last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, in which Rosberg clinched pole position.

Former world champion Hamilton looked on course to usurp the German’s time on his final flying lap, but Rosberg veered off track at the Mirabeau turn, causing yellow flags to be waved and Hamilton’s effort to be curtailed.

Rosberg subsequently went on to win Sunday’s race, and regain the lead in the Formula One drivers’ standings.

The incident appeared to damage the pair’s long-standing friendship, with Hamilton barely acknowledging his team-mate on the podium.

However, Mercedes’ non-executive chairman Niki Lauda insisted the two would mend their relationship, and Hamilton today took to Twitter to confirm he and Rosberg remain friends.

“We’ve been friends a long time and as friends we have our ups and downs,” Hamilton wrote.

“Today we spoke and we’re cool, still friends #noproblem.”

Mercedes have dominated F1 this season, with either Hamilton or Rosberg having won every race.

Hamilton trails Rosberg by four points in the drivers’ standings, and will look to reclaim top spot at the Canadian Grand Prix.
