Mensah cruises to 100m final in AYG

Accra, May 29, GNA – Janet Mensah braced all odds to cruise to the final of the girl’s 100m after recording a time of 11.98s to win heat two of the Africa Youth Games competition under way in Gaborone, Botswana.

Mensah, who had a slow start gave her opponent a good run to finish about five meters from the 50m mark.

Refilwe Dintweng of Botswana placed second with a time of 12.41s and was followed by Arzita Nimi of Burkina Faso with 12.91s.

In the Boys 100m category, sprinter Godfred Kofitsey failed to advanced to the final after placing fifth in heat one of the boy’s 100m event with a time of 11.12s. Martha Bissah qualified for the final of the girl’s 800m after winning heat two with a 2.12.61s.

In the long jump category, Richard Seklorwu narrowly missed the chance to win a medal in the boy’s long jump event after placing fourth with a jump of 6.97m.

Meanwhile, middle distance runner Sarah Owu placed 14th in the girl’s 3000m race.
