ECG to publish load shedding time table this weekend

The Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG) is to publish a load shedding time table this weekend after several weeks of incessant power cuts.

This is to enable consumers to plan better on how to use their electrical appliances.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during a stake holders’ meeting at the Energy Ministry where the time table was said to be receiving its final touches.

The nation heavily depends on its three main power sources – the Akosombo, Bui and Kpong dams – with support from the Aboadze thermal plants, but they are performing below their capacities.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority, Kirk Coffie has revealed to Joy News that there is enough crude oil and gas to generate power for the whole nation.

‘As we speak today we have roughly about 400,000 barrels of crude oil in Takoradi.’

‘In Tema we have 200,000 barrels of crude oil so it’s not about a question of fuel as we speak today.’

He added, ‘Gas supply from Nigeria for the past one week has been good above 90, today we are getting 97’.
