The 11th West African Mining and Power Exhibition (WAMPEX) begins today, May 28 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

WAMPEX will be held simultaneously with the West African Mining and Power Conference (WAMPOC).

Both programmes are being hosted by Events and Projects International in collaboration with local partner, Ghana Chamber of Mines and our South African partner, Exhibition Management Services.

The Exhibition and Conference is on the theme, ‘Sustaining Business Growth through Innovation in a Challenging Energy and Mining Environment.’

This year’s WAMPEX, which ends on May 30 2014, is the biggest in its 20-year history, with almost 100 exhibitors from 17 countries taking part.

The event is being supported by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Commission of Ghana, the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Electricity Company of Ghana.

For the first time in the show’s 20-year history, India, which has been named a partner nation in the Exhibition and the Indian Pavilion, will feature over 25 Indian exhibitors.

According to the Confederation of Indian Industries, a high-level delegation representing large Indian companies will be participating at WAMPEX, exploring investment and supply opportunities to related industries in West Africa.

Another nation that will be visibly present is France. Represented by the French international business development agency, Ubifrance will host 16 exhibiting companies in the French Pavilion at the expo, showcasing products, services and equipment related to the mining and power industries.

Visitors to the Expo will also receive rewards as in celebration of the 20th anniversary of WAMPEX.

Two lucky visitors could win an Apple iPad or a return flight ticket to South Africa, courtesy of South African Airways (SAA).

WAMPEX/WAMPOC, since its inception, has provided a platform to introduce suppliers, technologies and techniques to West Africa’s mining and power industries.

WAMPOC 2014 will bring together key stakeholders in the Ghanaian Mining and Power Industries, as well as West African sub-regional and African players and international investors.

It will seek to address the challenges and opportunities in these industries with specific focus on the sustainability of the industries.
