The rain in May: Germany forced to train in rain

Germany’s hope of acclimatising to the weather in Brazil during their training camp in Italy turned into a damp squib.

But Tuesday’s training session looks the Mancshafts were spending a wet weekend in Hamburg rather than a warm summer in South America.

The team are spending the week in Italy, where surely they would have expected better weather, ahead of two warm-up matches, against Cameroon in Monchengladbach on June 1 and against Armenia in Mainz on June 6.

A second-string Germany team launched the country’s World Cup preparations with a lacklustre 0-0 draw against Poland in a friendly international last week.

Germany jet to Brazil on June 7 and open their World Cup campaign on June 16 against Portugal in Salvador in Group G.
