FIFA Youth Championship: Benfica thrash Asante Kotoko


Asante Kotoko failed to stand the might of Benfica in the 40 minutes football action in Zurich.

The first 20 minutes ended with the European giants leading by 2-0. Back from recess Asante Kotoko who couldn’t get any antidote to the fast game by Benfica conceded another goal to trail by three goals to nothing.

The Benfica Youth team emerged as runners-up to the youth team of Barcelona in the European U-19 Championship in 2014.

The Porcupine Warriors will face FC Zurich in the evening of Wednesday to play their second game for the day.

The teams participating in this year’s event includes; FC Blue Stars (Switzerland), FC Sion (Switzerland), FC Zurich (Switzerland) and six time winners Grasshopper Club Zurich (Switzerland),  Benfica  (Portugal), Club Atletico Paranaense (Brazil), Bayern Munich (Germany), Olympiacos (Greece) and Villareal (Spain).

The Ghanaian champions sent out 18 layers from its youth side led by coach Karim Zito.

The competition is started from Wednesday 27 May and will end on Friday 30 May and it is meant for only U-20 players.
