Tragedy in Somalia: Land-mine blast kills one child, injures two on football pitch


A child died and two others seriously injured after an old land-mine exploded as they were playing football in the town of Balanbale early Monday.

Somali Football Federation announced the news of the children aged between 7-10 years. 

The Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab said in a press statement said the injured were rushed to the city of Galkayo for treatment.

The blast occurred while the children were playing football in an open ground in the town of Balanbale near the border between Somalia and Ethiopia.

‘On behalf of the entire Somali football family members, I would like to send our heart-felt condolence to the family and relatives of the child who was killed in the blast and I wish sudden recovery for the two others wounded’ Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab said in a press statement.

It was on 13 of January 2010 when 9 young footballers were killed and 12 others were wounded after two mortars on a small football field in Mogadishu where the young boys were playing football.
