Let’s stop breaking the hearts of Ghanaians -Sammy Awuku to NPP

National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku has called on party members to desist from actions that seek to undermine the unity in the party.

According to him, the NPP will be setting itself up for another catastrophic defeat in 2016 if it does not put its house in order.

Sammy Awuku was reacting to the seeming disunity in the party ahead of its presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer.

As the race for the flagbearership of the party heats up, there have been reports of infighting amongst the Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen factions.

Groups and individuals rooting for these bigwigs [Nana and Alan] have taken their rivalry on social media making the issues murkier.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Sammy Awuku described as unfortunate how a mere flagbearership race has now become a tug of war.

He likened what is happening in the NPP to a team awarded a penalty in a football match and is rather spending time arguing about who should take the kick.

Sammy Awuku said inasmuch as a democratic political party like the NPP thrives on vigorous internal debates, ‘let’s stop breaking the hearts of Ghanaians’.

He noted that the NPP as a government in waiting, ‘Ghanaians are looking up to us to restore hope and redeem them from the shackle of poverty they have been plunged in by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC)’.

The National Youth Organizer stressed that the upcoming flagbearership election is an internal contest, thus those highly-opinionated sympathizers must use party’s internal grievance channels to resolve differences.

Sammy Awuku urged party members who support any of the  presidential hopefuls to refrain from utterances that will give ammunitions to political opponents. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
