Three ‘wee’ peddlers grabbed


Three persons who attempted to transport dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp to Cote d’Ivoire have been arrested.

They are Kodwo Acquah, 42; Kweku Acquah, 26, and Kwame Emmanuel, 29.

The dried leaves, packed into 25 bags, have a street value of GH¢2 million.

According to the Mfantsiman District Police Commander, DSP David Ashong, about 2 p.m. on Friday, May 23,2014, the police gathered intelligence that the suspects were preparing to transport dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp in a boat to Cote d’Ivoire.

The police command quickly dispatched men to Biriwa to arrest the suspects.

During a search in their residences, the police found that the suspects had compressed the Indian hemp into 25 maxi-sacks.

When they were arrested, they offered GH¢10,000 to the police to allow them to escape but the policemen rejected the offer.

During interrogation, DSP Ashong said, the suspects admitted that the dried leaves belonged to them but they declined to disclose the source of their supply.
